Get your Christmas shopping done at Downtown Crossing in Boston. You are college bound to Boston, Massachusetts. With a multitude of colleges and universities to gain a rewarding education for a successful career, you’ll also want to experience the cultural sights and shopping opportunities that Boston has to offer.

From the northeastern university apartments or Allston apartments of the city, make your way to the Downtown Crossing Holiday Market. Christmas shopping is made easier for the college student where you can find the unusual gift for those on your shopping list. The Downtown Crossing is located in the heart of downtown, east of the Boston Common.

Strictly open for pedestrian traffic, the Downtown Crossing has a multitude of shops and eating places mixed in with historic sites and night clubs. Besides brick-and-mortar stores, there are sidewalk vendors, musicians and street performers to make your sight-seeing experience a fantastic one.

Once every year, the Downtown Crossing has a Holiday Market, which consists of a long tent that stretches down the street. The Downtown Crossing Holiday Market begins after Thanksgiving and lasts all the way to Christmas Eve. This gives college students, whose funds are mostly going toward paying for their Brighton apartment rental, the opportunity to find a great handmade gift or souvenir at a great price to send back home to their families to celebrate the holiday season.

The vendors sell everything from clothes, jewelry, handbags, food and handmade crafts. You can find a mixture of everything throughout the weeks, since vendors may stay for a short period of time to be replaced by other merchants selling their wares. Even more, many of the vendors offer eco-friendly products. So know that your purchase is also helping the environment.

The best way to get to the Downtown Crossing Holiday Market is by bus and the MBTA’s Downtown Crossing subway station. Driving your car through the downtown is a difficult venture, and many of the streets for the Downtown Crossing have been closed to allow for the pedestrian traffic.

So don’t stay locked away in your Boston college housing for the holiday season. Set down the books, take a break and visit the many stores and eateries on your way to the Downtown Crossing. Get all your Christmas shopping done at the Holiday Market and even get your research started concerning all the Boston historical sites located downtown, such as the Boston Irish Famine Memorial. Grab a bite to eat at the Corner Mall, and perhaps stay a little bit longer for some dancing at one of the many clubs.

Downtown Crossing has a bit of something for everyone when visiting its many stores. As a college student, you can obtain most housing in your price range at the Allston-Brighton apartments area located in the downtown Boston area. With a nice apartment at a convenient location, your college experience will be one to write home about along with sending that special gift for Christmas.

So plan your education to include the many great universities located in Boston, Massachusetts. Budget your finances to obtain that Boston university apartment that is perfect for your needs, and leave a little extra money squirreled away to visit the Downtown Crossing Holiday Market for the holiday season.

Promote the environment and the small business owner who offers handmade crafts by taking a stroll among the tents to find the perfect Christmas gift. But you only have a limited time. Remember, the Downtown Crossing Holiday Market is only open between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. And vendors are changing daily, opening up booths for only a few days to a week before moving on and allowing another vendor to take their place. So grab that special and unique gift while you can.

The Downtown Crossing Holiday Market. Great prices from professional vendors located at the heart of downtown Boston. Welcome, college students! Have a shopping adventure through the historic site and fine eating restaurants as you enjoy your academic time in a wonderful city.

Boston Nightlife

Nightlife
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the biggest bar night of the year. All of your friends are back home and you’re all ready to meet up, knock a few cold ones back and reminisce about your respective schools, jobs, families and lives. And if you’re living in Boston University Apartments or other Boston college apartments in the area, you’re within walking distance from a number of college bars that cater to the younger crowds. Such establishments include Great Scott, Our House West, The Kells, T Anthony’s and the Paradise Rock Club and Lounge. There’s also things to do if you’re living further away from the city in the west-side neighborhoods of Allston and/or Brighton, such as the Deep Ellum and Draft Bar and Grille.

Boston sports activities

Sports
Living in Boston College or Boston University apartments? Then you’re close to one of Boston’s professional sports franchises, several of which are hitting full stride around Thanksgiving. If hockey is your thing, be sure to catch the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. The Bruins host the Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets on back-to-back nights starting November 25 at the TD Garden. The defending champs are more than enough excitement to help you get over the Red Sox’s September collapse!

Boston duck boat tours

Take a Tour
Just because you live in Boston doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy all that it has to offer. Don’t take your city for granted, leave your apartment and head downtown to take a “duck boat” tour. The tours show you the sights and sounds of the city, both by land and by sea. Or tie one on with a tour of the Sam Adam’s brewery, which depart every 45 minutes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. most weekdays. Boston is a place that literally just has an aura of history. You might even choose to make your own tour. Take a walk down to the Boston Harbor where the Boston Tea Party took place or past Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in the MLB.

Boston Common. Enjoying the outdoors of the city.

Enjoy the Outdoors
Just 0.2 miles from the city center is the Boston Commons. What Central Park is to New York City is what the Boston Commons is to Boston. The 50-acre park is the among the oldest in the country and serves as the starting point for a system of connected parks that wind throughout the city’s neighborhoods. If you’re looking to get out of your apartment and wind down, head to “the Common” It’s perfect for walking, jogging, people-watching or just taking in the city that surrounds you. You shouldn’t be thinking about that term paper on your Thanksgiving break, but if you’re looking for some writing inspiration, the Common might be able to help. Martin Luther King Jr. and Pope John Paul III have given speeches at the famed park.

Culture and shopping on Boston's famous Newbury Street.

Take in the Culture
Head over to Newbury Street and browse 15 art galleries that line either side of the road. While you’re there, be sure to stop into Newbury Fine Arts, where you’ll see paintings by Ronnie Wood, the famed Rolling Stones guitarist/artist. It’s a great way to kill some time in between your other stops throughout the city. Plus, as an added benefit, it’s free to browse the galleries. What’s more is it’s just a short commute from downtown apartments and also manageable from west-side Allston and Brighton rentals
.
Time for giving in the Boston areaDuring this coming Thanksgiving holiday season, a time when you want to share your time and effort with your community during your break from college, you will also need to find affordable housing near your volunteer location. By choosing a central location near adequate public transportation, as well as a prime spot near the social activities that Boston has to offer.
Boston offers a tremendous number of opportunities for you to become an involved part of the season of giving. You will be able to feed your desire and need  to step away from course work, intense studying, deadlines and exams while offering a kind hand to those who need your help during your Thanksgiving break.
Once you have decided you want to volunteer in Boston during Thanksgiving, you will have a wide array of options where you can share your good will. Depending on how much time you have to offer and what type of work you would like to do, and the area of the city in which you would like to spend your time volunteering, you will have many choices for living arrangements.
One volunteer option to consider is the Boston Living Center, which celebrates its Annual Celebration of Life at the Hynes Convention Center in the Back Bay. This event offers a full dinner for those living with HIV/AIDS, as well as for their families and loved ones.
You may also choose to go the classic route and Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army. This option may provide you with a longer time frame in which you can offer your volunteer services to the community of Boston.
Consider giving your time to one of the many hospitals in the Boston area. You may be able to work at the reception or visitor’s desk. You may also be asked to visit patients who have been hospitalized without any family near where you can keep someone company by talking, reading a book, or playing a game.
Don’t forget fine, furry friends while you’re in the Boston area. Volunteer at Boston’s animal shelters to spread love and kindness to animals who are without a family of their own this holiday season.
Boston offers many safe neighborhoods, steeped in historical and cultural tradition, where you can hang your hat after a long day of volunteering your generous services. By choosing an apartment located in any of the neighborhoods listed below, you can be confident that you will return to a safe, comfortable place to rest after a night out on the town with friends.
One route to finding the right accommodations will be in checking with the many colleges in the area such as Boston University housing, Boston University apartments or Boston College apartments.
Also, be open to looking beyond the college areas into the more cozy nearby neighborhoods such as Allston apartments, which are located in the western part of the city and are adjacent to Brighton apartments. The two areas area often referred to as Allston-Brighton and both feature multi-family Victorian style homes, often in the form of triple deckers, or three-story apartment buildings.
You might also want to check out Fenway apartments, which are near Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, located in the heart of the Fenway-Kenmore area.
No matter where you choose to live during your time of giving this Thanksgiving, you will find rich history, cultural diversity and a great chance to feel a part of your community.

House of Blues in Boston located in the Fenway neighborhood. The liveliest place in town.Boston is a compact city. It is more akin to a city in Europe than the typical American metropolis. Of course, this is not to say that Boston is not a contemporary city. It is cutting edge and innovative, with respected technology and medical sectors. It is adorned with beautiful skyscrapers, the Zakim Bridge and newly restored traffic arteries, but at the same time Boston remains charming and quaint. If you can’t walk to your destination, then the T Service will get you there quickly and efficiently. However, Boston’s nooks and crannies, enclaves and neighborhoods are best explored by foot.

Boston is considered the birthplace of the American Revolution. If history is your thing, then there is no shortage of sights, tours and landmarks that you can visit. From Faneuil Hall to the Paul Revere House, there is American culture around every cobblestoned corner. But, what is there to do and see if tourism is not your thing? Boston is not a mummified city living off the remnants of its golden past. The history and culture of Boston is one layer in a vibrant and multifaceted city. It buzzes with excitement. The esteemed universities and colleges supply the life-blood of this city in the northeast.

Forget the businessmen in the Financial District or the soccer fans in the North End; it is the college kids that give Bean town its energy and passion. If you are looking to join the fraternity of Boston, then you are going to have to find a place to live. Kenmore Square, in the Fenway area of Boston, is a good place to start looking for apartments. Fenway apartments are some of the best in the city. Boston college housing is tough to come by. It is best to start looking early.

Bordered by Mission Hill and Columbus Avenue, Kenmore Square is often called the gateway to Fenway Park. Boston’s famed Citgo sign watches over the area like a guardian angel. Apartments Kenmore is a good place to hang your hat. Whether you like baseball or not, you cannot show up in this city without a passion for Red Sox baseball. Unload your luggage at your Boston University apartments and then head over to Fenway for a tour. After that, hit one of the numerous bars in the area. The Boston Beers Works brews its own beer. The Cask and Flagon is the pillar of Fenway watering-holes.

The Fenway area is also known as a hotspot for clubs and music venues. Lansdowne Street, which runs beside Fenway Park, is dotted with a variety of clubs and dance spots. Friday and Saturday nights find the street alive with everything from punk and new wave to drum and bass and techno.

Bars, clubs and nightlife are the trifecta for most college kids. However, Boston is as well-known for its art and museums as it is its rough and tumble Irish pubs and clam chowder. The Fenway area hosts two of the most renowned art museums in the country. Take the time after class to visit the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Gardener Museum.

Boston is not an overwhelming city. There is something comfortable and familiar about it. The old Yankee charm and modern ingenuity form a perfect balance. The neighborhoods around Fenway, like the Back Bay, have the perfect Boston university apartments to begin your trial run to be a bonafide Bostonian.

Bike sharing programs have already been successfully used in major European cities for many years.  It is surprising that none have arisen in a city as bike-friendly as Boston until now.  Officially operational since July 28, 2011, The New Balance Hubway is Boston’s bike share program. Bike-sharing is a great option for students, commuters, tourists, and anyone looking for a casual day-activity.

Boston New Balance HubwayHow does it Boston’s New Balance Hubway work?

It’s easy for anyone to ride! Just go to a Hubway terminal, which are located all over Boston’s Downtown area, and follow the instructions at the terminal or insert your membership key.  A bike will be released from one of the slots at the Hubway terminal.  You can ride it for as long as you like, although it may cost extra to use it for an extended period of time.  When you are finished, you can deposit the bike back into any empty slot at any Hubway terminal.  It will automatically lock the bike into the terminal and you are done!

How much does it cost to use Boston’s New Balance Hubway?

If you intend to use the Hubway for regular transportation, you will probably want to get a membership, which includes a bike-release key that allows you to unlock bikes instantly without using the terminal.  The membership will eventually cost $85/year, however New Balance Hubway is currently offering an introductory rate of $60/year. Without the yearly membership, riders can get a “Casual 3 day” pass for $12 or a “Casual 24 hour” pass for $5.

Boston New Balance Hubway Station MapEach time that you release a bike for use, the first 30 minutes are free, but your credit card will be charged extra for every 30 minutes after that, and it’s not cheap.  With a casual membership, it costs $2 for the second 30 minutes, $4 for riding from an hour to an hour and a half, and $8 for every half hour beyond that.  Extra time is cheaper for those with registered yearly memberships, but not by too much.  The good news: Hubway stations are very easy to find if you are riding in the Downtown area of Boston, and if  you simply re-insert a bike into a Hubway station and take another out every 30 minutes, you can ride free as long as your membership permits!

The New Balance Hubway is a cool, fun, new part of Boston, so go check it out today!  It may just be the way you get around the city from now on.

Don’t live somewhere where you can take advantage of Boston’s Hubway?  Maybe you need a new apartment or condo closer to the action. Contact Warren Rentals today for information or help finding the perfect home for you!

Patriot wide receiver on the look out for Boston roommate

If you have an apartment in Boston and in need of a solid, reliable roommate, then look no further…  Patriot’s newly acquired wide-receiver, Chad Ochocinco, is looking for a new home.

“I’m going to do something different,” Ochocinco said to the press during a Q & A session after practice. “I’m actually going to stay with a fan, probably the first two or three weeks of the season.  So that should be fun until I get myself acclimated, learn my way around, and actually just find a place.”

Ochocinco’s roommate requirements are very simple – have internet access and an Xbox.  You also may want to know the layout of the city.  Ocho is new in town and just recently got lost leaving Fenway/Kenmore after the Sox and Yankees on Saturday.  So you’re going to want to show him around.

If you’re kind of crazy… it’s okay, Ocho told the press, “I rode a bull. I’m crazy. Same thing.”

So with all that said, if you’re a Patriots fan who is kind of crazy, and have internet access and an xBox, then you might want to get in touch with Chad Ochocinco.  It could be a roommate match in heaven.

But if you don’t have an apartment in Boston, then maybe it’s time to start looking.  Now, we can’t promise that you will find an awesome roommate like Ochocinco, but we are glad to help you in your apartment search.  We have agents knowledgeable in all Boston neighborhoods, from the Back Bay to Allston and Brighton.  So don’t waste another minute, contact us today!

Explore Boston like never before. Shown is a Schooner from the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships sailing the harbor.

School is out and Summer time is here.  With the sun shining and the heat rising, now is a better time than any to get out of your college apartment in Boston and explore all that Boston has to offer.  And what better way to do that than by water?

Now, it’s a little known fact that Boston has a famous harbor and it also has a great river flowing alongside it as well, so the city isn’t short on water activities by any means.  If you’re the kind of person who loves to live next to the water, but still want that urban sophistication, then Boston is your town.  Whether you’re looking for a Brighton apartment, Allston apartment, Fenway apartment, Back Bay apartment or anywhere within the city, a waterfront is not far away.

If you’re in the mood for a cruise along the Boston waterways, there are plenty of cruise companies around that offer boating tours.  You can take a 60-minute sightseeing trip along the Charles River and 75-minute tour of the Boston Harbor and Charles River Locks with the Charles Riverboat Company.

If you want a more sailing experience, maybe the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships might be the way to go with their 125-foot schooner, the Liberty Clipper, for a two-hour journey the  explores the Boston Harbor and its islands.

The Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships typically set sail three times a day with departure times at noon, 3 and 6 p.m., from the Long Wharf located in the North End. They also offer unique experiences like Friday night steak and lobster sails, Sunday brunches, and sometimes offer wine tasting sails.

Another fun and entertaining way to experience Boston are the duck-boat tours.  If you’ve lived here long enough, you’re probably more than well-aware of these duck-quacking-tourist transporters.  They’re amphibious vehicles from the World War II-era that have been restored, each with a unique personality and tour, seeing everything from the Public Gardens to splashing waves in the Charles.  So if you’re student new to the area or plan on finding an apartment in Boston soon, this might be a great activity for you and/or your family when they come to visit.

Let’s say for a moment, you and your friends want to get out of your Boston College apartments and take a daycation, but would like to do it on the cheap.  Try taking a $14 ferry ride out to the Boston Harbor Islands.  They may not be a palm tree paradise, but there is a lot of beauty to be found in the Boston Harbor Islands.  It’ll give you a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban living and enjoy the great outdoors like exploring historic sites, observing wildlife, hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and much more.  All of which are just within reach when traveling aboard ferry service that finds port at the Long Wharf-North Pier in Boston.

If fairing the seas are not your thing, you just can’t seem to ever get your sea legs, you could always enjoy scenic views of the Boston waterways by taking a stroll on the HarborWalk.

The HarborWalk is a public walkway along the waterfront, with parks, public art, seating areas, cafes, exhibit areas, interpretive signage, water transportation facilities, and a whole assortment of other amenities along its path.   It is certainly a great way to exercise and experience beautiful scenery when enjoying the day outside of your Boston apartment.

Now that you’re ready for the high seas, go set sail and see all there is to see from the sea.  You’re going to love it.

“For single women, Boston has it all.”  Maybe Sex and the City should film a movie in Boston – SingleMindedWomen.com named Boston #1 on their 2010 list of the top 10 cities for single women.  The website calculated the results based on factors such as living costs, amenities, gender ratios, education levels, and diversity.

Boston Commons
As far as the cost of living is concerned, Boston is actually less expensive than many other cities (including New York, Washington D.C. and even Seattle.)  “The reasonable cost of living in Boston, coupled with big city salaries, allows  single women to splurge on entertainment, and  in this city there’s plenty to do.” Whether you  choose a Back Bay condo or an Allston apartment,  there definitely is plenty to do; sports arenas, fancy restaurants, comedy clubs, music venues and neighborhood bars fill every corner of Boston.

Within the city there are endless opportunities for  entertainment and socializing, but what Boston has to offer the single social butterfly is not confined to Boston Proper.  Step out of your Boston apartment, jump on a quick train in any direction and end up at vintage flea markets in the spring, fabulous beaches in the summer, gorgeous New England apple orchards in the fall, or one of the fantastic mountains for skiing and snowboarding in the winter.  Meanwhile, Logan International Airport is right in East Boston; with over 1,100 flights per day, it makes a long vacation or a quick get-away easy as pie!

The website also considered the diverse personal tastes of single women.  Based on the architectural diversity of Boston apartments (from historic brownstone to luxury high rise and everything in between) and the vast amount of boutiques and stores on Newbury Street, Charles Street, and in the Prudential Center, Boston ranked number one in personal style.

Finally, the website deemed the single population here already to be career minded, educated (you can’t throw a stone in the city without hitting a college,) and diverse.  Top all of this off with the fact that 1/3rd of the population is single and the winning formula is clear!
